Christiania Derby 2007

Once again Rangatira had impressive representation at the 50th Christiana Ski Club Derby. Despite the horrid conditions, we entered five teams in total: 1 Masters, 1 Mens, 2 Womens, 1 Juniors team and 3 individual Snowboarders.

As pleasant as racing in soft fresh falling snow may sound; think again, bitter cold, poor visibility and those soft snowflakes, not so delicate as you navigate your way through the gates.

While there were a couple of delays due to injuries, plenty of fresh snow kept falling and the racing was eventually restarted with some admirable results for Rangatira.

The Masters trophy raised plenty of controversy this year, as for some unknown reason there was a muddle up with club names when presenting 2nd place which was mistakenly awarded to Ngauruhoe. Oddly enough, Ngauruhoe didn’t even have a team entered in the masters. However, the shield has now been recovered and placed proudly on our wall.

The Christie prize giving and party was held at the Happy Valley Café, catering for nearly 200 competitors plus supporters partying late into the night.

This is the First time we have ever secured three trophies within one competition. I would like to give very big congratulations and thank you to all participants and supporters who made the day possible.
