Monique Oosterbaan represented New Zealand at the 25th World University Winter Games in Erzurum, Turkey in February this year.  The World University Winter Games are second in importance and size only to the Winter Olympics.  These games had a record 58 nations competing with 1880 athletes.  Turkey spent US$380 million on the venue for the games.

Monique was very proud to be the flag bearer for the New Zealand team.  She competed in slalom, giant slalom and super G in which she was very pleased to improve her world ranking.

After the games, Monique continued to race in Switzerland, Italy and Austria.  She had plans to race in France and America on the way home but, unfortunately, she broke her leg while training in Switzerland.  Since her return home Monique has spent much of her time on physio, nutrition and in the gym and plans to recommence her training in Wanaka this season.

Monique would like to thank all those in Rangatira ski club who have given her support.
