Phil’s BC Bounce Back

imageThought you may be interested to know that I got myself fit enough to race in the BC downhill again. Big event being the 30th running of the oldest downhill race in Nth America and apparently the last such event. Big turn out with 170 qualifiers for the teams race in the morning (which took almost 4 hours of continuous running on the course. At the end of that the Canadian National Masters downhill race is run on the same track after a single slipping!!. Only 6 people in my age group were prepared to run the masters race.

All up our Kiwi team came 3rd in our combined age group (team of 4 , must have at least one of each sex). Lady luck was on our side in that two other teams had a DNF runner so we ended up with a bronze medal. Luck also ran my way in the masters. The old ski instructor I have been trying to beat on
three attempts finally succumbed to my pressure and crashed!! leaving me to pick up the silver medal. (my team mates were out of the medals). I ended up as one of the few skiers who managed to improve on each of my three runs and I rank this my best ever result.
