2008 Christiania Derby
Club atmosphere was at an all time high with the buzz of a crisp clear day with almost 100% participation of the Iwikau lodge population, backed up by the support of more club members driving around from Ohakune to join us on race morning. We mounted another superb turnout, overwhelming Christiania club with our volume of entries and club spirit.
With the Valley closed for much of the morning, it was decided to run with a new racecourse down the Staircase.
Three cheers to Christiania Ski Club for hosting this magnificent event for the 51st time. The racing ran without a hitch. Perfect clear conditions; there were no major spills and timing seemed to be consistent. The race started on schedule and finished early as no hold ups and ran as like textbook [have you seen a textbook running? - Ed].
Christiania also hosted a substantial prize giving party in the Happy Valley café. Providing us with all components of an entertaining evening with an open bar, band and dancing and never leaving us with a dull moment.
Our Olympic teams may not be pulling in the medals just yet, but we certainly managed to pull in some remarkable results. In fact this is our highest trophy count yet in any single competition to date.

Rangatira also entered the only veteran brave enough to compete in the day’s race. Congratulations to Phil Clemow. He’s an inspiration to us all, let’s see if we can still be so competitive at his age and follow his example.
A huge Thank You to all our competitors and supporters.
Cheers,
Anton
