Email Phishing
Many club members have been receiving emails purporting to be from Jane Wimsett and asking for an urgent loan because the sender is stuck overseas. These emails are obviously not from Jane, and you should mark them as spam and delete them.
We believe that someone hacked in to the Yahoo/Xtra email account used by the club for many years and we have contacted Yahoo to restore the account, reset passwords and close down the new account created in Jane’s name. Unfortunately, these criminals now have all the email addresses of people that have sent or received email to the club account, therefore, these phishing emails may continue for some time and may purport to come from other people.
Please be assured that this security breach has not affected the club website and your booking and membership details remain secure. Nevertheless, we are taking this episode as a timely reminder to review website and email security (e.g. we will look at installing an SSL certificate).
