Christiania Derby

For an unprecedented fifth year in a row Rangatira won the Christiania Masters trophey. This is a really fantastic effort as the competition from other clubs is fierce indeed.

1st Masters Team
2nd Masters Team
4th Masters Team

Right: Phil Clemow accepts the winning Masters plaque and prizes on behalf of Rangatira (with Mark Fairley and Pieter Oosterbaan looking on).

Four teams represented Rangatira at the 2005 Christiania Derby with the Masters team (over 35s) walking away with the trophy for first place for the fifth year in a row which must surely be some kind of record for any event on Mt Ruapehu.

The winning team consisted of Pru Boberg, Phil Clemow, Mark Fairley and Iain McArthur (the baby in the team!).

Rangatira also fielded the second placed masters team consisting of Robyn McArthur, Ian MacPherson, Pieter Oosterbaan and Paul Boberg.

Rachel and Shannon Trafford, Jordon Wimsett and Sophie Boberg claimed fourth place in the ladies open while the mens team, Andrew and Mark Seaville, Anton Haueter and Rob Yallop also came fourth in their event.

In case you ever wondered, this from the Christiania Ski Club website:

The name Christiania, despite its religious sound when said quickly, is the old name for Norway’s capital city, Oslo. Since Norway is the country where skiing originated, it is not surprising that the name Christiania was perpetuated in a once popular ski turn, the ‘stem-christiania’, which added further to the name Christiania becoming a popular choice.
