Scholarship 2005
The 2005 Scholars are, in no particular order, Cayleigh du Plessis, Melissa Lockey, Shannon Martin, Rachel Clarke, Kate Chilcott, Matthew Lester, Nathan Lockey, Cameron Deynzer, Jacob Anderson, Nicholas Boberg.
Although I have been a parent of a scholar, I was a ‘novice’ running Scholarship on behalf of Trish and the Committee.
As you are aware we had 10 scholars this year, which on reflection was quite a large number for one coach to manage. However all the children reported that they had learnt a lot during their week.
We did manage to ski every day on Whakapapa without turning to ‘Plan B’, which was to venture to Turoa with our Coach as a Group should the mountain be closed.
All the parents were extremely supportive and pitched in without having to be asked or requested and the Club ran very smoothly. Big thanks to all the parents in particular Wayne Boberg and Roger Wimsett who took the Scholars out skiing on both weekend days and also provided tuition on ski-tuning. There was always a queue at the end of the day to wax skis.
The only calamity to report was a broken window in the ‘Quiet Room’ which occurred during a snow ball fight. The external glazing of the double glazing panel was broken however the internal pane remained in tact and a repair is being or has been organized.
Adrian Farnsworth kindly donated Head Vests to all the Scholars which were much appreciated and became a sort of team uniform. They were a big hit and the team wore them with pride.
Scholars Race Results – Kate Chilcott 1st, Nick Boberg 2nd and Cayleigh du Plessie 3rd.
Most Improved as voted by the Coach was Matthew Lester.
Scholar of the Year was a draw, and is shared by Kate Chilcott and Cayleigh du Plessie.
I think that covers the key points of a well worth while programme the Club runs which is still very popular with our younger members.
