Snowplanet Ski Race Training

Season 2009 and we have a new training venue “Snowplanet”. No more hassles with unruly weather, or of lack of snow.

These sessions are highly recommended for improving race skills and general ski technique; just in time for the beginning of our season. This training is aimed at anybody wanting to improve their racing, giving most skiers a rare chance of training gates without being involved in a real race.

Water Tank Update

Over the weekend the under floor tank was repaired thanks to the efforts of Mark Fairley and Roger Wimsett.  The tank is now refilling and will be fully functional for the winter season. Damage caused by the breach is relatively minor and will be the subject of further work parties.

It would be great if a few more people would volunteer to help out at the Club.  The next work party is on the weekend of the 16th and 17th of May).

Catastrophic Water Tank failure - Iwikau

At the last work party on 24 April, it was discovered that the interior water tank at the Iwikau Lodge, had burst, discharging over 35,000 L of water into the locker and front foyer area. It is believed the breach occurred over the Christmas/New year period.

At this stage the damage appears to be relatively minor, and we are assessing the remedial works required to get the tank operational for this season. The large outside tank is now feeding the Lodge and it alone holds sufficient capacity to provide the Clubs needs.

Straight Skis

Do you have straight skis stored at Iwikau, either locked in the racks, or unsecured, and want to keep them? If so, let us know by 7 May on .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), otherwise they will be dumped.

There are also a small number of skis locked in the ski racks. To avoid the locks being snipped, please advise if these are yours, as there is no permanent storage other than the provided lockers. Six more lockers have been installed, so if you want one, you will need to act quickly in advising Jenny (the booking officer).

Summer Lodge Activities

image

If you’re looking for some Volcanic Plateau adventure (or just relaxation), why not stay at the Club.  The Ohakune lodge is open with Martin and Lonie in residence and able to assist you with activities planning.

It’s a great option for mountain biking with the outside entrance to the ski room providing secure storage for your bikes without having to take them inside the main building. There are many great walking tracks in the area and the Tongariro Crossing is not far.  Trout fishing, river rafting, jet boating and golf are among the many other activities available.

Please note, RAL announced on 15 December that there will not be summer skiing this year as the snow has melted more quickly than expected.

Only $15 per person, per night, or $50 for a whole room (sleeps up to 7).
