50th Anniversary Ball

The 50th Anniversary Ball was a great success by all accounts. Thanks to Jane Wimsett, Barney Sullivan and other helpers for organising a terrific night enjoyed by all.
I have put some of the photos I took on the Club website. Please have a look and feel free to leave comments naming the subjects or anything else you care to say. Please forgive me if I didn't remember your name or spelt it incorrectly.
I did not get photos of everyone, so please feel free to send me more photos to add to the website.
Bruce Chambers, Rangatira founder (along with Don Yallop and others), was MC for the night and gave us a bit of a history lesson of the early days of the Club. Don Yallop talked about the time the Ohakune lodge was acquired and Peter Farrell discussed the origins of our ski fields (the gift of the peaks of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro).
There was a very successful auction with proceeds going towards the future upgrade of the Iwikau lodge.
After a buffet dinner, members and friends danced the rest of the night away to the music of the live band.
i must add that the Museum was a great venue. I had no idea that the facilities would be as good as they were. Time to visit the Auckland museum again if you haven't been for a while.
Mid-winter Christmas
Another 50th year celebration; we are starting off the season with a mid-year Winter Christmas dinner at Iwikau lodge to welcome the fabulous snow falling.
Weekend of 27/28 June (booking nights 26/27), adults only weekend, fabulous ‘dress-up’ formal Christmas feast, complete with Christmas trimmings and hopefully Whiskey & but definitely Wine tasting.
Cost $100 per person for weekend which includes accommodation, beer, wine and champagne breakfast on Sunday. Guests are also $100.
This should be a great weekend; the snow is looking good and you will definitely have a lot of fun at the lodge for one low price. So don’t delay, book today.

Snowplanet Race Training
[Editor's note: This training starts tomorrow night, but there is room for a few more members so please feel free to come along tomorrow]
Season 2009 and we have a new training venue “Snowplanet”. No more hassles with unruly weather, or lack of snow.
These sessions are highly recommended for improving race skills and general ski technique; just in time for the beginning of our season. This training is aimed at anybody wanting to improve their racing, giving most skiers a rare chance of training gates without being involved in a real race. From breaking the nerves of a first timer racer, through to the more serious, this training is for YOU.
Monday Evenings 8pm till 9.30pm June Starting 8th June, followed by 15th, 22nd and 29th of June.
Instruction costs are $80 per head (covers all four sessions). Price includes tuition only
Snowplanet have also offered a special entry price of $29 each per night.

Early Snow
 You're no doubt aware that there has been plenty of early snow this year (and hopefully much more to come). Our Ohakune custodians, Lonie & Martin Buchanan, have the Ohakune lodge open ready for members and guests.
 Martin and Lonie have been taking some photos of all the snow; check out the photos and head down to Ohakune without delay (the ski fields are not yet open, but you can still play in the snow and partake of other activities in and around Ohakune).
