Intro

Hard to believe it is August already and while the snow fall hasn’t been at record levels there is plenty of it at Turoa; the only other field with more snow in the country is Mt Hutt.  Fingers crossed that ‘big dump’ is just around the corner.

Online Bookings Update

As previously reported, the online booking system is in use by the Booking Officer. Unfortunately it's not quite ready to hand over to the members. We are aiming to have the online system available to members by the end of August. In the meantime, members need to make bookings through the Booking Officer in the normal way. Click here for booking forms and contact details.

Many of you will have received automatic email confirmations of your bookings as they were entered into the system. Unfortunately, the lodge door combination on those automated emails was incorrect. However, the Booking Officer has been separately emailing the correct door combination..

Ski Scholarship

This year’s scholarship once again was a roaring success. It was my privilege to take an exceptional group of Rangatira junior members for their pre-week orientation. I found the group receptive to learning new skills , polite and always ready to take part as individuals and as a group in all the tasks set for them including their daily duties.

The weather was on our side making for one of the most perfect weeks to learn. A little more snow would have made it unforgettable. Having to leave the group on Sunday afternoon was truly difficult as the two days spent with them was one of the most rewarding times for me personally in many years on the mountain.

I would like to thank all the scholars for making the Club’s effort to run the annual event truly worthwhile.  Special thanks to Pene Milbank (camp commandant) for her huge input towards organising the kids and keeping them focused through the week, and of course the parents who made Pene’s job a little easier.

Young President's Weekend

This is at Turoa on the same weekend as Presidents Weekend; 15 October. It is for 18-25 year-olds (or those young at heart).  Last year was the first time this event ran and by all accounts it was a fantastic weekend.

The event is open to members and guests (guests stay for members' rates plus $5).  Bookings open for guests 2 weeks before the event - register now so your guests are top of the list.

To find out more contact  simon_papesch@hotmail.com or funky_chikin666@hotmail.com (Claire Beuvink).
