About the Event

The North Island Primary and Intermediate School Snow Sports Championships (NIPS) are held annually at Whakapapa in the last week of August and the first week of September. 

Teams of 5 ski competitors or 4 snowboard competitors from schools all over the North Island gather at Mount Ruapehu for this event.

It is now one of the largest single sport primary schools sporting events in New Zealand and the largest skiing event held on Mt Ruapehu with over 300 competitors.

The event spans three weeks with teams from all Schools with Years 1 – 8 competitors.

Risk Consent Form - Please download / complete / save and sign, then return to - inquirynips@gmail.com.

Lift passes for Competitors / Course Assistants and athletes are available through NIPS - prices to be confirmed and updated as soon as we can.

Skiers Years 1 – 6

Course Assistants meeting Sunday 3pm at Department of Conservation Centre, Whakapapa Village. Each Team (of 2 or more athletes) must have 1 course assistant present.

Team Managers meeting Sunday 4pm at Department of Conservation Centre, Whakapapa Village (all teams must be represented or they will be removed from the Competition)

These course may be combined if numbers predict this.

All events will move progressively during the week to ensure the Giant Slalom and Dual Slalom are completed for team results

Prizegiving is planned for Wednesday afternoon at the Plaza, Whakapapa. Should the weather day be used, prizegiving will move to the National Park School Hall at 10am on Friday.

Medal winning teams not in attendance must make alternative arrangements for the collection of their medals.
